What is a MegaCity anyway? It is not something which the developers of Earth2.io envisioned being a thing!

In some ways, the MegaCity concept encapsulates the human inclination towards congregation and the inherent desire to form communities; our basic instincts! It is a fundamental aspect of our social fabric. This instinct is rooted in our evolutionary history, where survival often depended on the strength and cooperation of the group. In modern times, this translated into the formation of communities both small and large, from tight-knit neighborhoods to now, in E2, expansive MegaCities!

The emergence of MegaCities is a testament to the dynamic nature of human settlements, evolving in response to various economic, social, and environmental factors.

But the creation of a successful MegaCitie is not entirely naturalistic; it doesn’t just “happen” - it requires people with a vision, with determination and to a large extent the will to succeed in this unforgiving, demanding, ever-changing E2 landscape (many have stalled or closed completely).

E2 has only been around for a mere 3 years - how do people catch up and create successful communities in such a short time? Where does this vision come from? How does it start in the first place? Well, E2Z caught up with Daniel, the founder of LoB to chat about these very questions and his dipping into E2, about the key ingredients to create a MegaCity and what’s next for them now that they have formally moved into the realms of all things web3!.

The Butterfly Flapped It’s Wings

The story of Daniel and his foray into the digital realm with Legacy of Bermuda (LoB) is a fascinating tale of curiosity and the pioneering spirit. It began with a simple conversation with his father about the burgeoning technologies that were shaping the future. This dialogue sparked an interest in the concept of play-to-earn crypto gaming, an idea that blends entertainment with financial opportunity.

In 2020, Daniel in his desire for all things digital prompted to ask his father about the future of technologies and play to earn crypto gaming concepts. A thought, a small chat, that would set the wheels in motio for many years afterwards - the butterfly effect in the realm of technological advancements and digital entrepreneurship.

Amazingly, Daniel's father saw the potential in this new frontier and passed on information about Earth2! By January 2021, the seed was planted firmly in Daniel's mind, and the wheels of innovation began to turn. Daniel took his first steps into what would become more than just being a MegaCity in E2!

The platform of E2 was uncharted territory (even more so in 2020/21), and he lacked prior experience in creating virtual MegaCities. But instead of retreating, he dove headfirst. Learning on the fly, he absorbed knowledge like a sponge, determined to turn his vision into reality.

Creating LoB wasn’t just about slapping together a few digital tiles. It required finesse—a delicate balance between creativity and practicality. Daniel meticulously planned, designed, and executed; his vision morphed from abstract ideas into tangible structures within the virtual world. The challenge? Ensuring that LoB aligned with his initial dream while navigating the intricacies of MegaCity development.

But, a MegaCity isn’t just about tiles; it thrives on community. Daniel faced the daunting task of attracting users, fostering engagement, and building trust. LoB needed believers—people who would stake their digital claim, invest emotionally, and contribute to its growth. Daniel became a community architect, laying the foundation for LoB’s social fabric.

Building a MegaCity

What key ingredients are needed to create a MegaCity inside of E2?

Put simply? A Vision! But also a few other ingredients; Every great project needs an identity—a name that encapsulates its essence. For Daniel, this was the first step. The result? Legacy of Bermuda—a name that evokes visions of turquoise waters, lush landscapes, and a legacy for the future! A logo is more than just a visual; it’s a symbol that represents the heart of a venture. LoB has gone even further be producing an excellent film trailer, and even a song!

But as mentioned, a MegaCity isn’t a solitary endeavor; it thrives on community engagement. Next up; his praise and sincere thanks to Peter!, forming the creative partnership that transformed this project!

Put simply; Daniel’s vision for LoB needed more than just words, it needed visual poetry. That’s where Peter stepped in — a designer with an eye for detail and a heart attuned to LoB’s essence, and doing “unbelievable work”. Their collaboration was more than a mere partnership; he is a co-creator with his insights shaping LoB’s Vision. The sum become greater than its’ parts, and a partnership that continues to create something even more unique and un-dreamed of back in 2020!

Lastly, Daniel acknowledges that hard lessons have been learnt along the way - this mental resilience is a key ingredient in being able to create, and then maintain, a successful project.

Expanding the Horizon

Starting without any previous experience in building such a project could have been off-putting for Daniel, but persevering he had to learn quickly and adapt to the unique demands of the digital world.

Moreover, navigating the complexities of digital entrepreneurship, such as product innovation, localisation, organisational structure, and dealing with regulations and compliances, especially in international markets, will undoubtedly add layers of complexity to Legacy of Bermuda.
